It grows as a tree reaching a maximum height of 30m, the edible fruit are 20-50 mm long, purplish or black, containing 3-5 brown and shiny seeds, 2cm long. The plant bleeds a milky latex when cut or broken. The species ranges along the eastern coastline of Australia. It adapts readily to cultivation, is tolerant of moderate frosts, likes good drainage, as well as moisture, and extra fertilising.

Comments Warnings : Resembling plums in appearance, Black apple fruit is edible straight from the tree. Aborigines ate the large, juicy purple-black fruit which ripens during late spring and summer. It has a sweet and fibrous flesh. Aborigines in the Gosford region are recorded as having eaten the seeds.The fruits are often used to make a jelly.
