The plants can flower 3 - 5 times a year. They grow in temperatures up to 40°C with very short periods of frost but are not expected to survive long with exposure to freezing temperatures. They however have adapted to freezing temperatures in southern South America growing very at home in Chile. They have also adapted to live in dry tropical climates with a moderate rainfall. Do not overwater.

Comments Warnings :  The fruit is cut open and the flesh is eaten raw which is mildly sweet and low in calories. They have a nutty taste and are rich in lipids but are indigestible unless chewed. The fruit can be juiced or converted into wine. The flowers can be eaten or steeped as tea. The skin is not eaten.
