It is tolerant of drought conditions and high temperatures but is frost sensitive. Can survive down to 1.7°C. Foliage will damage at -2°C serious damage or death at -3°C. Grows successfully in tropical and sub-tropical regions. Will grow in a variety of soils and can tolerate a soil pH of 4.5-8.2. The topsoil should be quite rich to provide for the new growth which bears the fruit. The fruit matures 90 to 150 days after flowering.

Comments Warnings : It is high in Vitamin C and potassium. The flesh is very sweet with a creamy texture and a white colour. Eaten fresh the flesh, seeds and skin are all edible. As a snack they are often eaten under ripe and can be dipped in salt or sugar and even mixed with dry chilli.
