Burdekin Plum
Burdekin Plum

  • Price: $25.00

The Burdekin Plum has been grown as far south as Sydney but there are not many reports of its results. Although an extremely hardy plant that is able to handle prolonged dry periods once it is mature, it does need a loamy soil that is well drained and a very warm spot in the garden. It can also be found on sand dunes behind mangroves and in dry sub-coastal vine scrubs. Open soil and sunny position is preferred. Some frost tolerance.

Comments Warnings : The fruit can either be eaten raw, cooked into jam or jelly, used to flavour meat, or to make wine. The fruit of the Burdekin Plum need to be left to soften and are often stored or kept in dark places in paper bags for a few days. Early explorers also buried them in the ground.
