Tamarind Native
Tamarind Native

  • Price: $25.00

It is a common rainforest tree of eastern Australia. It is easily identified by the large sausage shaped leaflets. The Native Tamarind grows in a variety of different rainforests, on basaltic and rich alluvial soils. The southern-most limit of natural distribution is Brogo near Bega. It is hardy to around 00C for short periods. A medium to large tree with long and broad leaves. It produces three-lobed fruits which each contain a yellow-orange jelly like pulp.

Comments Warnings : The Native Tamarind is valued as an indigenous fruit tree because the aril may be eaten raw or added to jams and chutneys. It also is used as the basis for a tangy cool drink. The pulp is one of the best bush tuckers available and has a pleasant sour taste. Contains high amounts of vitamin C.
