Grapes grow well in open sun and produce fruit abundantly. They will grow in shade also but fruit will be less abundant. Prepare the soil. Grapes grow very deep roots and do best in well drained soil. If your soil is clay rather than loamy or sandy, amend it well. Dig a hole between two and three feet deep and blend in some peat moss and compost with the existing soil. Set the plant and root ball in the hole, fill all the spaces with the amended soil and water well. In general, grapevines thrive in temperate climates, which grant the vines long, warm periods during the crucial flowering, fruit set and ripening periods. Below 10°C, the vines are usually in a period of dormancy. Much below this temperature, such as the freezing point of 0°C the vines can be damaged by frost. When the average daily temperature is between 17 and 20°C the vine will begin flowering.

Comments Warnings :  Grapes have been heralded for their medicinal and nutritional value for thousands of years. They are made into wine or juice or eaten fresh. Traditionally grapes have been used for their levels of flavonoids which have antioxidant properties believed to have an anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic effect.
