Yarrow - Red

  • Price: $7.00

A perennial herb growing up to 3 feet tall with cream-cloured flowers. Yarrow is a perennial herb found worldwide because it grows in most places. Yarrow flourishes in all the temperate regions of the world. Yarrow should be planted in a sunny location. This herb will tolerate light shade. The soil should be rich and moist. You may need to divide invasive roots in the spring or autumn. Transplant or thin to approximately 12 inches apart. Do not plant Yarrow indoors. Yarrow when planted near other plants will assist them in resisting disease.

Comments Warnings : Leaves can be eaten raw or cooked. A rather bitter flavour, they make an acceptable addition to mixed salads and are best used when young. The leaves are also used as a hop-substitute for flavouring and as a preservative for beer etc. Although in general yarrow is a very nutritious and beneficial plant to add to the diet, some caution should be exercised. Large or frequent doses taken over a long period may cause the skin to become more sensitive to sunlight. See link PFAF for details.
