Kiwi fruit will grow in most of temperate Australia. They must have chilling - 700 hours below 7°C; well drained soil; have good watering for the first three years; have mulch and water when the temperature is over 35°C for the first three years; and you must have a male and a female vine. North facing slopes or sites shielded from low winter and early spring sun by buildings or trees are preferred. Vines planted where water sits on the surface following rains are likely to develop crown rot. Soil pH should be between 5.0 and 6.5.

Comments Warnings : Kiwifruit is a rich source of vitamin C, and potassium. It also contains vitamin E, and a small amount of vitamin A. The skin is a good source of flavonoid antioxidants. The kiwifruit seed oil contains on average 62% alpha-linolenic acid, an omega-3 fatty acid. Kiwifruit is often reported to have mild laxative effects, due to its significant levels of dietary fiber.
