The tree is tropical to sub tropical in its requirements. Grow in full sun and water regularly. It grows slowly and is very ornamental in appearance. The tree grows best in well-drained soils and young trees should be irrigated during hot weather. It grows especially well in mildly acid sandy soils and also relatively well in the limestone soils, but sometimes may have leaf chlorosis from deficiencies of iron, zinc and manganese. The problem is most likely to occur in young trees, disappearing as the trees attain larger size and a greater distribution of roots. Young trees have leaf and branch injury at temperatures close to 0°C and are likely to be killed at lower temperatures. Large trees may survive brief exposure to air temperatures of -3°C with injury only to leaves and small twigs, but are damaged severely or killed by temperatures below -50C.

Comments Warnings : The fruit is not distinctive in appearance but the flavour is amazing and is eaten fresh. The pulp is orange red in colour, very soft and tender, with a pleasant subacid flavor
